Getting around in Byron Bay
Getting out and about and around town in easy in Byron Bay, as most places are within easy walking distance or a short car ride away. For those wanting to stay out of town or who don’t want to walk at night, they’ll find that additional taxi cabs and Uber drivers operate in and around the Byron Bay area throughout the Schoolies period. These can be booked on the spot, in advance or caught from one of the two taxi ranks on Jonson Street in town. You’ll find one outside The Great Northern Hotel and the other at the Tourist Information Centre.

The closest airport to Byron Bay is Ballina Byron Gateway Airport, which is approx. 35kms away. They have a number of transport options available including shuttle buses, hire cars, taxis and hire cars. The Gold Coast Airport, at around 70kms away, is a popular choice for many travellers, with more flights arriving and departing each day.

It is important to note that due to our inability to offer flexible check-in and check-out times during peak periods, it is recommended that you to plan flights and airport transfers around these times in order to maximise time spent in your holiday accommodation.

The Redfrogs are a volunteer, chaplaincy support crew run by Uni students who provide 24-hour support to Schoolies. They provide a walk home service, pancake cook-ups and transport. Look out for their marquee set up near the HUB at Main Beach.

The HUB
The HUB is another 24-hour volunteer run group operating in Byron for Schoolies around Main Beach. They provide ‘safe zones’ where young visitors can access assistance, information, first aid, water and much more.

In total, over 100 volunteers help out during Schoolies week and additional police are always present and doing the rounds to keep everyone safe.
