Situated at the foot of Mount Chincogan, and on the banks of the Brunswick River, Mullumbimby is a hub of counter-culture a short 20 minute drive north of Byron Bay. “Mullum”, as it is affectionately known, lives up to its billing as ‘The Biggest Little Town in Australia’. The town - a hybrid blend of bustling Byron Bay and chilled Nimbin - mixes vibrant shops, boutiques, bars, and eateries with sleepy streets and serene hinterland, owing to a take-it-easy lifestyle.
Mullumbimby has everything on its doorstep, with beachside favourites Byron Bay (20km) and Brunswick Heads (10km), and a host of jaw-dropping national parks, mountains and rainforests, all a short drive away. Local and interstate visitors can easily reach Mullumbimby with two airports - Ballina Byron Gateway (41km) and Gold Coast (54km) - located less than 45 minutes from town.

Eye-catching nature is everywhere you turn in Mullumbimby. From within the town limits, you can bush walk through Brunswick Valley Heritage Park - a botanical haven for hundreds of rainforest plant species - or head for the banks of Brunswick River for a picnic by the water, or a relaxing swim or paddle.
For the more intrepid explorer, Mount Chincogan - towering 260m above Mullumbimby - is a favourite of hikers and walkers. Located 10 minutes’ drive from town, the mountain was previously a minor lava plug for the now extinct Tweed shield volcano, which erupted millions of years ago alongside neighbouring Wollumbin (Mount Warning). Beyond Mullumbimby lies the World Heritage-listed Nightcap National Park (57km), while Minyon Falls (25km) is a popular destination for daytrippers.
The Mullumbimby Community Market showcases some of the best local arts, crafts and food from the Northern Rivers region, taking place on the third Saturday of each month in Summers Park (corner of Stuart and Myocum Streets). Guests to the region can also sample mouth-watering, fresh local produce at the Mullumbimby Farmers Market, held Fridays from 7am to 11am at the Mullumbimby Showground.
Discover a magical sanctuary at the peaceful Crystal Castle & Shambhala Gardens, located a mere 10 minute drive from Mullumbimby in the luscious hinterland. Enjoy total relaxation as you explore some of the world’s largest crystals - including the 5.5 metre Crystal Guardians - as well as hectares of stunning gardens and rainforest, a labyrinth, and the local and organic Lotus Cafe.
For a brewery experience with a difference, look no further than Wandana Brewing Co. Located 3 minutes’ drive from downtown Mullumbimby, Wandana serves up a variety of small batch beers, wines and ciders, all uniquely fermented to the vibrations of music. Drop in for an afternoon DJ set and sample thirst-quenching brews and fabulous food, overlooking scenic Mount Chincogan. Wandana is also dog and child-friendly, with a kids room available to keep youngsters entertained.
Established in 2008, the annual Mullum Music Festival is an event not to be missed. Held over four days each November, the festival celebrates local, national, and international music talent, with live shows taking place at a number of venues across town.
